Fast, Stable, and Low-Temperature Resistant: China GPC’s PhosphoMei New Material Offers A New Solution for Engineering Maintenance
Recently, at the full slab replacement site of Harbin Taiping International Airport’s tarmac, China GPC’s PhosphoMei team has been carrying out construction in an orderly manner. Low temperatures did not pose an obstacle, and the repair work proceeded as scheduled.
For a long time, frigid environments have been a prominent challenge plaguing winter construction in northern China. Traditional concrete relies on hydration reactions to develop strength. Once temperatures drop below freezing, free water in the concrete begins to freeze, leading to issues such as early-stage structural damage and halted hydration processes. This not only compromises engineering quality but also prolongs construction cycles and increases costs. To address this industry pain point, China GPC independently developed the PhosphoMei new cementitious material, which provides an innovative solution. By reconstructing the cementitious reaction mechanism, this material enables acid-base reactions to proceed normally even under low-temperature conditions. It can still harden stably in environments ranging from -20℃ to -30℃ and boasts significant early strength advantages, offering a feasible approach for rapid winter emergency repairs.
During the full slab replacement project at Harbin Taiping International Airport, the adoption of PhosphoMei cementitious material eliminated the need for constructing thermal insulation sheds or implementing heating measures. The entire operation process, from milling and planing to pouring, was successfully completed during the nighttime gaps between flights. The material achieved rapid initial setting at low temperatures and reached load-bearing requirements within a short period, ensuring that airport operations remained unaffected.

Previously, in the tunnel emergency repair project of the Sichuan Jiuzhaigou-Mianyang Expressway, this material also demonstrated its adaptability to complex working conditions. In the humid and enclosed tunnel environment, it achieved initial setting in approximately 20 minutes and reached service-standard strength within 1 hour, effectively supporting emergency rescue efforts and gaining valuable time for traffic restoration.
Beyond transportation infrastructure, the PhosphoMei cementitious material has delivered stable performance in fields such as industrial equipment repair and extreme environment construction. In nighttime maintenance operations at multiple airports and engineering applications at Antarctic research stations, repaired areas have maintained long-term structural integrity, providing reliable guarantees for the safe operation of facilities.
Industry experts opine that the new type of cementitious material, characterized by low-temperature reaction capability and short construction cycles, will accelerate the transformation of winter construction models. Shortening maintenance cycles from "counted in days" to "counted in hours" will help reduce downtime of key infrastructure, improve engineering operation and maintenance efficiency, and elevate public service standards.
Currently, the PhosphoMei cementitious material has been applied in over a hundred projects nationwide. As China’s infrastructure construction continues to move toward refinement and specialization, China GPC will keep advancing material innovation and enhancing engineering application solutions.
