GPC Expands Its New‑Energy Materials Industrial Footprint
Recent environmental impact assessment filings have been published for two major projects in Kaiyang County: a 600 000‑ton‑per‑year high‑performance iron phosphate facility and a 600 000‑ton‑per‑year high‑tap‑density lithium iron phosphate facility.
Signed in January 2025 and broken ground in April the same year, the projects constitute core components of the Phosphorus‑Sulfur‑Titanium‑Copper‑Iron‑Lithium‑Fluorine Coupled Circular Integration Project. The full‑scope co‑production project is planned with the following capacities: 1.6 million tons of iron phosphate, 1.2 million tons of lithium iron phosphate, 1.4 million tons of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (co‑producing 400 000 tons of titanium dioxide), 150 000 tons of lithium carbonate, 10 000 tons of lithium fluoride, 20 000 tons of lithium hexafluorophosphate, and 100 000 tons of copper smelting. Supporting works include phosphogypsum decomposition for sulfuric acid production and combined heat and power (CHP) plants.
Phosphorus serves as one of the raw materials for lithium iron phosphate. Endowed with substantial phosphoric‑acid production capacity, GPC extends its industrial chain downstream into iron phosphate and lithium iron phosphate manufacturing. Together with the commissioned 50 000‑ton lithium iron‑phosphate and 60 000‑ton iron‑phosphate projects in Xifeng County and the phosphorus‑chemical base in Fuquan, this Kaiyang initiative forms a complete value chain running from phosphate ore all the way to new‑energy battery materials.
GPC ranks first nationwide and among the world’s top‑three enterprises in phosphate‑ore mining‑beneficiation and phosphate‑compound‑fertilizer capacity. Its products are exported to more than 100 countries and regions across the globe. The launch of the Kaiyang projects will further consolidate Guiyang’s industrial foundation for new‑energy battery materials. For overseas customers, the signal is clear: GPC is no longer merely a producer of phosphate fertilizers and phosphates. It keeps broadening its footprint and scaling up capacity in new‑energy‑material business lines.
